TITLE: US 151, Iowa County

DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND:

A new road has been built and opened to traffic on September 19, 1985 from Interstate 80 exit number 225 north to US 6 near Homestead of the Amana Colonies. To provide a major route between Dubuque, Cedar Rapids, and Interstate 80 this road should be designated as a portion of US 151; and that portion of Iowa 149 from US 6 near Homestead north to the Iowa‑Benton County line should be re‑designated as a portion of US 151 and its description added to the primary road system.

US 151 begins at a junction with Interstate80 approximately six miles northeast of Williamsburg and travels north, east and north via Homestead and Amana of the Amana Colonies to the Iowa‑Benton County Line approximately four miles north of Amana.

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended to approve adding the new description of US 151 in Iowa County to the primary road system.

New Description ‑ US 151 in Iowa County described as follows:

Beginning at the south ramps of Interstate 80 at a point near the SW Corner Section 33‑T80N‑R9W; thence north following substantially the section line of Sections 33, 28, 21, 16, 9 and 4‑T80N‑R9W to a point near the W ¼ Corner Section 4‑T80N‑R9W; thence northeasterly and southeasterly through Section 4 (west junction US 6), and 3‑T80N‑R9W (east junction US 6) to a point approximately ¼ mile north of the S ¼ Corner of Section 3‑T80N‑R9W; thence northeasterly through Sections 3 and 2‑T80N‑R9W and northwesterly and northerly through Sections 35, 34, 27, 22, and 15‑T81N‑R9W to a point approximately 350 feet south of the NE Corner of Section 15‑T81N‑R9W; thence north following substantially the section line of Sections 14, 11, and 2‑T81N‑R9W to the Iowa‑Benton County Line at a point near the NW Corner of Section 2‑T81N‑R9W, Iowa County (SW Corner of Section 35‑T82N‑R9W, Benton County).
